A selection of the world's top fencers will have the chance to familiarise themselves with this year's Olympics venue when they take part in an official test event over the next five days.
The Rio fencing Grand Prix, beginning on Saturday, will feature 64 top female and male fencers in the individual epee event at the Carioca 3 Arena, reports Xinhua.
Results from the Grand Prix will help determine the Olympic draw.
On Wednesday the same venue will host the team world championships for sabre and foil.
"The two competitions will give the Olympic facilities a thorough work-out," the official Rio2016 portal said on Friday.
Organisers will also be testing systems that use wireless technology to automatically register points when competitors make valid contact.
