Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) spokesman and former MLA Saheb Singh joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday.
Several others from the RLD from western Uttar Pradesh also joined the BJP in presence of state BJP chief Mahendra Nath Pandey.
The move is seen as an attempt by the BJP to strengthen its position for the Kairana Lok Sabha by-election of May 28.
The seat fell vacant after the death of incumbent BJP MP Hukum Singh. His daughter has been fielded by the BJP. RLD's lone legislator Mahendra Singh has already joined the BJP.
