Reliance Power (RPower) Tuesday said the fourth 660 MW unit of its Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project in Madhya Pradesh has started electricity generation.
"The fourth 660 MW unit of the 3960 MW (6X660MW) Sasan Ultra Mega Power Plant (UMPP) being developed by Sasan Power Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of the company, has commenced power generation", RPower said in a filing to the BSE.
The total operational capacity of the plant has thus reached 2,640 MW.
The remaining two units are in the advanced stage of construction and will be commissioned in the next few months, the statement added.
With this commissioning, RPower's generation capacity has increased to 4,525 MW, that includes 4,440 MW of thermal and 85 MW based on renewable energy.
Coal production has also begun from the 20 million tonnes Moher and Moher-Amlohri captive mines associated with the UMPP.
The company's stock closed Tuesday at Rs.87.35, 1.45 points, or 1.69 percent, higher than its previous close on the Bombay stock exchange (BSE).
