Stressing that RTI should be used effectively, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said the act is a powerful medium of two-way communication between the citizens and the government.

Inaugurating the 11th annual convention of the Central Information Commission (CIC) here, he said the Right to Information (RTI) Act helped citizens to get information and the government to get new ideas for formulating people-friendly policies and to reform the governance system.

"The government system should use it effectively," an official release quoted him as saying.

"Our system needs to be corruption free, smart, sensitive, transparent and answerable for making all the programmes of the government a success and RTI can play an important role in it," Rajnath Singh said.

The RTI Act provides a strong foundation to the feeling of trust and cooperation which is important for the governance based upon trust, he added.

The minister said maximum possible information was being made available on the websites of government departments and agencies.

He also expressed happiness over the launch of citizen-friendly software by the CIC where citizens can register their appeals and complaints.
