Indian shuttler P.V. Sindhu was awarded the bronze medal at the podium ceremony after the women's singles final at the World Championships here Sunday.
The 18-year-old, who assured India's only medal at the competition Friday, lost the semifinal to eventual champion Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand Saturday.
The World No.3 Ratchanok took one hour and five minutes to beat Olympic champion and World No.1 Li Xuerui of China 22-20, 18-21, 21-14 in her own backyard and claim the gold Sunday at the Tianhe Indoor Stadium.
South Korea's Yeon Ju Bae, who beat Saina Nehwal in the quarterfinals, was also given the bronze at the Tianhe Indoor Stadium for her semifinal appearance.
This is only the third instance that an Indian brought home a medal from the Worlds.
Prakash Padukone won the men's singles bronze in 1983 at Copenhagen while Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa won another bronze in women's doubles in the 2011 edition in London.
