Former Singapore prime minister Lee Kuan Yew's condition has deteriorated due to an infection, a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said on Tuesday.
Lee was the first prime minister of Singapore from 1965 to 1990 heading the island-country for 35 years. Also one of the most influential political figure in Asia, he is widely recognised as the founding father's of modern day Singapore
Lee, 91, is on antibiotics and doctors are closely monitoring his condition, the Straits Times reported citing the statement.
The former prime minister is being treated at the Singapore General Hospital since February 5, when he was first hospitalised for severe pneumonia.
The last update on Lee's health was on Saturday when the PMO said his condition remained "largely unchanged" from a stable state.
