Six people were killed and about a dozen injured Monday when a train derailed after being hit by a van in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka.

Abdul Majid, officer-in-charge of Government Railway Police (GRP) at the Kamalapur railway station, told reporters that the collision left two people dead on the spot and injured 13, according to Xinhua.

Four others reportedly succumbed to their injuries in hospital later in the day.

Railway Minister Mazibul Hoque, who visited the accident site, blamed the accident on the van driver.

"Either the driver lost control or there was negligence on his part," he said.

A three-member probe committee has been formed to investigate the collision.
