An Irish national Martin John, 49, has been remanded to a week's police custody for murdering a 35-year-old Turkish national at the popular beach village of Arambol, 45 kms from Panaji, police said Monday.
Both John and the deceased Sundra Erdemir were friends and prima facie it appeared that the Irish national had assaulted the latter with a wooden drum during a heated discussion Sunday, police said.
Both were living in neighbouring cottages at Arambol village, well known on the foreign tourist circuit.
"The deceased was a Turkish national. We have informed the embassy about the death," police said.
The accused has been booked under section 302 and 307 of the Indian Penal Code.
