Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos on Tuesday said he is happy at the replacement of Rafael Benitez as Real Madrid coach by Zinedine Zidane.

Ramos was one of the players most critical of Benitez, who was sacked eight days ago. He left several messages pointed at the former Liverpool, Valencia and Napoli coach in previous declarations to the press, reports Xinhua.

Speaking on Tuesday, he made no secret of his satisfaction at seeing former player Zidane take over the reins.

"The change of coach has been very good," said Ramos, who hoped that "2016 will be a good year for Real Madrid".

Zidane's time in charge got off to a positive start on Saturday as Real Madrid defeated Deportivo la Coruna 5-0 in the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. And the good results can be expected to continue next weekend when they face La Liga strugglers, Sporting Gijon, who have slipped into the bottom three after a poor run of results.

Ramos also gave his opinion on FC Barcelona's Lionel Messi winning the Balon D'Or award, given to the best footballer of the year by football's governing body FIFA, for an unprecedented fifth time ahead of Ramos' team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo.

"I think both Messi and Ronaldo are from another world," said Ramos.

"The constant and daily battle they maintain to be the best is not human."

"Messi won the triple last season and has won two titles this year and that has helped. They are both superstars, but perhaps last year Messi was a bit more of one," he admitted.
