Slaughter house waste has huge potential

The government has taken a lead on the issues like climate change, conservation of bio-diversity and global peace, Dr. M. Salahuddin, director, ministry of environment and forests said here addressing a meet.

The country can earn $50 billion by pet food to the global market by recycling slaughter house waste products, he said.

Slaughter house wastes were seen as a major source of pollution in cities. But experts now feel if they are recycled as feed for animals, it could be a profitable industry.

Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. (retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah, asked the scientists to produce good research for the betterment of the mankind. He said that meat industry in India was linked with Muslims and the AMU faculty should carry more works on these slaughter houses.

Prof. S.M. Ilyas, Project Director, National Institute of Rural Development, Hyderabad said that in coming days, bio-products will be more valuable than the meat.
