Somesh Sharma of Rashtradoot Saptahik was on Friday elected President of The Indian Newspaper Society (INS) for 2016-17.
Sharma succeeds P.V. Chandran of Grihalakshmi (Mathrubhumi Group). The election took place at the 77th annual general meeting of the INS here, an INS statement said.
Akila Urankar (Business Standard) is the new Deputy President, K. Balaji (The Hindu Weekly) the Vice President and Sharad Saxena (Hindustan Times) the Honorary Treasurer.
V. Shankaran is the Secretary General of the Society.
The members of the INS Executive Committee include S. Balasubramaniam Adityan (Daily Thanthi), Girish Agarwal (Dainik Bhaskar, Bhopal), Vijay Kumar Chopra (Punjabi Kesari, Jalandhar), Vijay Jawaharlal Darda (Lokmat),
Viveck Goenka (The Indian Express, Mumbai), Mohit Jain (Economic Times),
Mahendra Mohan Gupta (Dainik Jagran) and Shailesh Gupta (Mid-Day).
