Six people, including three children, were killed on Friday when a train mowed down a group of people crossing the rail tracks in West Bengal's Malda district, police said.
The incident happened near Baroduari in Malda district, 330 km from Kolkata.
"The victims -- three women and three children -- died on the spot after being run over by the New Jalpaiguri-Howrah Shatabdi Express," police superintendent Prasun Banerjee said.
The incident happened when the victims were crossing the rail tracks.
"One of them managed to escape, the women along with the toddlers could not move fast. The victims were from Katihar district in Bihar," said Banerjee.
Railway officials rushed to the scene and the bodies of the victims were sent for post-mortem.
