A Special Police Officer (SPO) was injured after he was allegedly shot at in Barzulla area of the city on Wednesday.
The doctors at the Bone and Joint hospital here said that the SPO, identified as Roman Rashid, was brought to the hospital with a bullet injury in his thigh.The police had initially dismissed the report about the SPO's injury as "mere rumour." However, they are now ascertaining the factors that led to Rashid's injury.
SPOs are engaged in Jammu and Kashmir to combat militancy. They are given a fixed monthly package. No weapons are issued to the SPOs, as they are normally not trained in handling firearms.
