The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has rescued six children from Bihar while they were being taken to Mumbai for working in garment factories and arrested two human traffickers, an official said on Friday.

The children, aged between 14 and 17, were rescued on Thursday from Bairgania railway station. Three children belong to Nepal, while others are from areas near Sitamarhi.

"The SSB's 20th Battalion conducted raids at Bairgania railway station in Sitamarhi and rescued the six children. They were being taken to Mumbai by Karmabhoomi Express. Two traffickers were also caught," the SSB official said.

The traffickers, one of them from Nepal, were handed over to the Government Railway Police while the children were handed over to a non-governmental organisation Childline.

"The traffickers gave the names of persons to whom these children were to be handed over in Mumbai. GRP Sitamarhi is probing the nexus between Indian and Nepali traffickers. The help of Mumbai police is also being sought to break this nexus," the official said.

The SSB has rescued 380 children and apprehended 118 human traffickers in 86 cases this year. The corresponding figures for 2016 are 533 children and 160 human traffickers in 87 cases.
