Actress Storm Reid, who made her film debut in the Oscar-winning "12 Years a Slave", has been roped in to play the lead in the Disney film "A Wrinkle in Time".

The 13-year-old has been tapped to portray Meg Murry in the film adaptation of the 1962 classic children's book by Madeleine L'Engle, reports hollywoodreporter.com.

In the upcoming fantasy film, Reid will join the cast that currently has several A-list actresses lining up.

Talk show queen Oprah Winfrey has been roped in to play one of the supernatural beings known as Mrs. Which.

Meanwhile, actresses Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling are in negotiation stages to portray former celestial beings named Mrs. Whatsit and a literature-quoting Mrs. Who respectively.

Ava DuVarnay will direct the fantasy film from a screenplay provided by "Frozen" scribe and co-director Jennifer Lee.

Jim Whitaker will be co-producing the film with Catherine Hand. Its filming is expected to begin here in November.

Set for a 2018 release, "A Wrinkle in Time" revolves around teenager Meg Murry, her genius brother Charles Wallace and classmate Calvin O'Keefe. They launch an interplanetary mission to rescue the siblings' missing scientist father. Along the way, they are counselled by the mysterious trio of Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Which.
