Former union minister Suresh Prabhu, who was sworn-in as a union cabinet minister Sunday, quit Shiv Sena and joined BJP ahead of the oath ceremony, party sources said.
Sources say he is likely to be made a Rajya Sabha member from Haryana.
Shiv Sena sources had earlier said that the party was not happy with his induction in the cabinet as they felt there are more deserving leaders in the party.
Prabhu took oath, even as another Shiv Sena leader Anil Desai returned to Mumbai from Delhi airport and did not attend the swearing-in ceremony.
Prabhu has been appointed as Modi's 'sherpa' to assist the prime minister at the upcoming G20 summit in Brisbane.
