A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in Odisha for killing a girl half his age after she resisted his rape attempt, police said Saturday.
The incident took place in Rangahudi village of Odisha's Jajpur district.
Police Inspector Jyoti Prakash Panda told IANS that the teenager was arrested after the girl's father lodged a complaint Thursday night that his daughter had been to the house of accused and did not return home.
The girl was found dead in a nearby hillock, less than half a km from the village, the next day. The accused allegedly throttled her to death after she protested his rape attempt, police said.
"We have arrested the accused. He will be produced before a juvenile court today (Saturday)," Panda said.
The deceased was a class 3 three student, while the accused studied in the 10th class, he said.
