The terror attack in Jammu region was aimed at derailing the proposed meeting between prime ministers of India and Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said Thursday.

Abdullah told media persons that 12 people have been killed Thurdsday in the attack that was mounted by heavily armed gunmen who first attacked a police station and then took on soldiers at an army camp.

"The aim is to derail the proposed dialogue between prime ministers of India and Pakistan. These are forces that are inimical to the interests of people of Jammu and Kashmir. They always tried to derail any peace process that was sought to be initiated, always wanted to keep the turmoil alive," Abdullah said.

Manmohan Singh Wednesday said he will be meeting Nawaz Sharif in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) Sep 29.

Omar Abdullah said political pressure will be mounted on Manmohan Singh against going forward with the meeting with Nawaz Sharif.

He said his government has always said that those who were against peace should be defeated.

"We should not give these forces a chance to succeed," he said.

He said if the two prime ministers did not meet, it will amount to allowing militants to succeed.
