Three people of a gang were arrested for circulating fake Indian currency in Delhi and neighbouring towns, police said Monday. Fake currency with a face value of Rs.6.5 lakh was recovered from them.

Mohd. Farid-ul-Islam alias Farid, 26, Kunja Bihari Pandey, 42, both residents of Gurgaon, and Safiq-ul-Alam alias Safiq, 26, a resident of Malda in West Bengal, were arrested Sunday, police said.

Farid was nabbed from outside the New Delhi Railway Station when he went to deliver a consignment of counterfeit notes with a face value of Rs.5 lakh, police said.

"The notes were in the denomination of Rs.1,000," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.

"Farid is involved in procuring and circulating fake notes. He procured the consignment from Shahjahan, a resident of Malda," said Yadav.

During interrogation, Farid disclosed that the consignment was to be circulated in Delhi and Gurgaon with the help of other conduits Pandey and Safiq, said the officer.

"Raids were conducted and Farid's two associates Pandey and Safiq were arrested from their hideouts in Delhi. Police also recovered Rs.1.50 lakh counterfeit currency from their possession," said the officer.

The gang had earlier circulated fake notes received from Shahjahan thrice, said the officer.
