Three legislators of the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Tuesday resigned to protest the party's decision to support a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate in the Rajya Sabha polls scheduled for Feb 7.
Jagannath Mahto, Mathura Mahto and Vidyut Baran Mahto handed over their resignations to party chief Shibu Soren.
The JMM earlier said it will field Savita Mahto, widow of former deputy chief minister Sudhir Mahto in the polls, but at the last moment, it decided to support the RJD candidate.
Sudhir Mahto died of heart attack last week.
The RJD threatened to withdraw support from the Hemant Soren-led government if its candidate was not supported in the polls.
"We have handed over our resignation to the party chief in protest for not supporting our party candidate. We are also against supporting an outsider in the Rajya Sabha polls," Jagannath Mahto said.
