Former Corinthians manager Tite has emerged as the favourite to succeed Luiz Felipe Scolari as coach of Brazil after the World Cup.

Scolari is widely tipped to step down following Brazil's clash with the Netherlands for third place in Brasilia Saturday, reported Xinhua.

Other candidates mooted for the role are Sao Paulo coach Muricy Ramalho and former Brazil and Real Madrid boss Vanderlei Luxemburgo.

Tite led Corinthians to the Copa Libertadores-FIFA Club World Cup double in 2012. The 53-year-old has been out of work since leaving Corinthians in December 2013.

It is understood Scolari told friends and family of his intention to resign following the Selecao's 1-7 semifinal defeat to Germany Tuesday.

Scolari guided Brazil to victory at the 2002 World Cup during his first spell as national coach.
