Tremors were felt in many parts of the northern hill state of Uttarakhand on Tuesday, but there were no reports of loss of life or any damage to property, officials said.
According to the state emergency operation centre, light to moderate tremors were felt across the state.
Chief Minister Harish Rawat instructed all district magistrates to assess if there was any damage following the tremors.
He directed officials that the government must be informed on an urgent basis if any kind of damage to life or property was reported from any part of the state, an official told IANS.
All disaster management units at the district level have been alerted.
