A qualifying race of the Ironman 70.3 World Championship will take place in Vietnam's central Da Nang city on May 8, with the participation of over 1,100 triathletes from 59 countries and regions, a local organiser said on Wednesday.
At the Ironman 70.3 Vietnam event, 1,132 triathletes, including 172 from Vietnam, will engage in a 1.9km ocean swim, a two-loop 90km bike course and a 21km out-and-back run course, said the local organizer named "Sunrise Events Vietnam", reports Xinhua.
The 70.3 refers to the total distance in miles covered in the event.
There are 40 qualifying slots to the 2016 Ironman 70.3 World Championship slated for September in Australia.
The Ironman World Championship has been held annually in Hawaii, the United States since 1978, with an additional race in 1982. It is owned and organised by the World Triathlon Corporation.
