Tripura to appeal editor's acquittal in triple murder case

The Tripura government will appeal to the Supreme Court against the state high court order acquitting a local newspaper editor in a sensational triple murder case, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar told the assembly on Thursday.

"The state government would appeal to the Supreme Court against the high court order," Sarkar said in the house after the members of the opposition Congress raised questions on rising incidents of murder in different parts of the state.

The Tripura High Court on December 10 allowed the 75-year-old Sushil Chowdhury's appeal against his conviction and sentencing by a district and sessions court in the sensational 2013 triple murder case in his newspaper office here, and acquitted him.

On May 19, 2013, three employees of Dainik Ganadoot -- manager Ranjit Chowdhury, 61, proof reader Sujit Bhattacharjee, 25, and driver Balaram Ghosh, 31, were found murdered within the office premises.

The West Tripura district and sessions court had sentenced Chowdhury on July 14, 2014, to jail till the last day of his life. He then appealed to the high court.
