Two senior IPS officers have been retired prematurely after extensive review of their service performance, an official said on Tuesday.

"Raj Kumar Dewangan, a 1992 batch Chhattisgarh cadre officer and Mayank Sheel Chohan, a 1998 batch Union Territory cadre officer, were given premature retirement under the All India Service (Death-Cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958," a Home Ministry official said.

The performance review of their service was done to weed out deadwood, he said, adding that there were complaints against them.

"There were cases against them," the official said.

A service review is conducted twice on an all India services officer - first after 15 years and again after 25 years of completion of qualifying service.
