Two more Haryana districts - Jind and Karnal - have been included in the National Capital Region (NCR), Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Tuesday.

He made the announcement after a meeting of the National Capital Region Planning Board, presided over by union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu.

The chief minister said he sought financial assistance for infrastructure upgradation in rural areas of the NCR, noting developed rural areas play a vital role in checking migration to urban areas, according to an official statement.

He said the Regional Plan-2021 for the NCR has been prepared with an emphasis on development of infrastructure in the urban centres.

Speaking at the board meeting, Khattar said the power utilities would invest about Rs.6,500 crore in the NCR areas of the state in next three financial years for upgradation of generation capacity, transmission and distribution network.

He said that the projects of power utilities have been funded through national institutions like Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) and Power Finance Corporation (PFC).
