The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) on Friday announced that it had opened disciplinary proceedings against AS Roma and Liverpool following the Italians' 4-2 home win in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final here.

The UEFA charged Roma with setting off fireworks and blocking stairways, while Liverpool were blamed for shooting fireworks, reports Efe.

"This case will be dealt with by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on May 31," the UEFA statement said.

Roma president James Pallotta was also charged with "improper conduct".

After their 7-6 on aggregate win against Roma on Wednesday, Liverpool qualified for the Champions League final, where they are set to take on Real Madrid at the NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium in Kiev, Ukraine on May 28.
