The standing committee constituted by University Grants Commission met Tuesday and has recommended a revised structure of 14 main and two concurrent subjects for Delhi University's 2013 four-year undergraduate batch students.

The 10-member committee was constituted by the commission June 23 with representatives from UGC, DU teachers and students to advise and help the varsity on migration to a three year programme.

"UGC standing committee has recommended the structure of 14 main and two concurrent subjects for the batch of 2013 who was earlier admitted to DU's four year programme," Aman Awana, a student representative of the committee, told IANS.

The meeting was also attended by DU Dean of Colleges Malashri Lal.

The need for restructuring arose after DU's four year programme was scrapped and the varsity decided to go back to its three year undergraduate programme.

"Apart from this, one compulsory paper on environmental sciences as per Supreme Courts decision has also been recommended," added Awana.

The recommendation will be sent to DU and the authority Tuesday night itself or Wednesday and they will have the final say on how the restructuring is to be undertaken.

With continued protest from students and teachers, the varsity which had constituted a committee of principals to help in admission modalities has further increased its ambit.

"Under the collective pressure of students and teachers, the terms of reference of the Monitoring and Advisory Committee set up by the university consisting of 12 principals to have been expanded to include the restructuring of FYUP courses," Nandita Narain, president, Delhi University Teachers Union (DUTA) said in a statement.
