DMK president M. Kaurnanidhi Monday said the interim union budget for 2014-15 has a few welcome features though it lacked lots of sops in an election year.
In a statement issued here, Karunanidhi said the controlling of inflation at 5 percent, announcements relating to seven new airports, solar power projects, reduction in taxes on mobile phones are welcome features.
Citing the DMK's demands to scrap service tax on rice and write off education loan, Karunanidhi said the centre has scrapped the service tax on rice and has given some relief to borrowers of education loan.
Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram presented the interim budget for 2014-15 in parliament Monday.
