Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday handed appointment letters of jobs to 1,000 trainees as part of the state's ambitious skill development programme.

He also gave away cheques of Rs.30,000 each under the state's Kanya Vidhya Dhan scheme and LED bulbs to 100 girls.

Later he signed MOUs with reputed companies for providing jobs to skilled trainees under different categories.

The two-hour long programme was held at the Taj Nature Walk against the backdrop of the Taj Mahal.

Speaking on the occasion, Akhilesh Yadav said Uttar Pradesh had become the first state in the country to implement the skill development policy and had given a big push to its "sabko hunar, sabko kaam" for segment of the population aged between 14 and 35.

Asserting the state was well poised for all round development, he said its most ambitious project - the 300-km-long Agra-Lucknow six lane highway - was progressing well and would be extended to Ghazipur, while the Luckow Metro was being given top priority.

He said interests of farmers had been taken care of and construction of new mandis for food grains, and infrastructural development projects were receiving a big push. As many as 17 lakh laptops had been distributed and the 'Samajwadi' pension to 45 lakh poor women was a world record, he added.

Vocational Education and Skill Development Minister Abhishek Mishra said so far 46 lakh youth had registered and two lakh already trained at the 1,769 training centres.
