To enable farmers in the state to schedule irrigation for crops in advance, Uttar Pradesh would soon be implementing SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and automation technology from Ramganga canal, it was announced on Monday.
Chief Secretary Deepak Singhal directed the Principal Secretaries, Irrigation and Agriculture to hold a meeting within a week to ensure that irrigation capacity of the lower canal parallel to Ramganga is increased to 64,000 cusecs from 42,000 cusecs and 13 dams have been built in Bundelkhand.
He said that in order to improve the lives of farmers, one block each should be identified in Lalitpur, Kannauj, Farrukhabad, Etawah and Ghazipur to organise diverse agricultural programmes near the irrigation facility.
The Chief Secretary on Monday was chairing a meeting of UP Water Sector Restructuring project, second phase. Team Leader of World Bank, Jun Matsumoto appreciated the timely decisions taken by the state government and hoped that it would consistently work in the irrigation sector.
