Legendary football coach Alex Ferguson has backed Louis van Gaal to again turn his former club Manchester United into a world-beating side.
Van Gaal was chosen as the manager at Old Trafford following the failed reign of David Moyes. The Dutchman was given the task of bringing the glory days back at the club, which reached dizzing heights during Ferguson's mammoth 26-year tenure at the club.
But since Ferguson's retirement in May 2013, United fell into the previously uncharted territory of mid-table also-rans in the English premier league and also missed out on the elitist Champions Leaue qualification under Moyes' turbulent reign.
"I don't know how Louis van Gaal can expect to get the best results with the injuries he's had. When he gets the best players back, you watch United go - because he's a great coach, he will do well," Ferguson was quoted by BT Sport Tuesday.
"They have still got great players. I'm not interested with what is happening with the players he's brought in, as that will take time."
He said that the new players brought in by van Gall will take time to settle in the new atmosphere at the club.
"When I brought in Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic in the January of the same year, they were all over the place. They took five months to get used to playing for Manchester United - the culture and the history of the club," he said.
"And these new players will be exactly same."
