West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday mourned the death of veteran journalist Amitabha Chowdhury who passed away earlier in the day.
Chowdhury, 87, died of age-related problems.
"I convey my profound grief on the demise of eminent journalist Amitabha Chowdhury. He breathed his last at daybreak today (Friday)," Banerjee said.
"Associated with newspapers like Anandabazar and Jugantar, he was at the front rank among contemporary journalists of West Bengal. He authored forty valuable books and also explored new horizons in the cultivation of life and the works of Rabindranath Tagore," said Banerjee.
Awarded the Padmashri in 1983, Chowdhury was bestowed the Bangabibhushan award by the Banerjee government in 2013 in recognition of his achievements.
