Veteran Odia actress Mahasweta Ray on Monday joined the opposition BJP in the presence of Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan here.
Ray is one of the most acclaimed actors in the state and has worked in over 80 films in Odia and other languages.
"I joined the Bharatiya Janata Party as I am inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. I will work for the betterment of Odisha," Ray said.
Pradhan said the party would be strengthened by her joining.
Last month, Odia film actors Mihir Das and Anu Choudhury also joined the BJP.
Earlier, several Ollywood actors, including Sritam Das, Pinky Pradhan, Harihar Mohapatra, and Ajit Das had joined the party.
