Vietnam is accelerating training and sending its athletes to qualifying rounds of Olympic Rio 2016 so that the country can realise the target of gaining more than 15 berths to the global sporting event, its General Department of Sports and Physical Training said on Wednesday.
Vietnamese will compete in a judo tournament in Tunisia from January 12-18, a shooting event in India from January 25-February 3 and football matches at the Asian Football Confederation Under-23 Championship in Qatar from January 12-30, reports Xinhua.
Vietnamese athletes will also participate in intensive training at home and abroad, the department said.
Vietnam has so far officially won six berths to Rio Games, including one for swimming, two for shooting and three for weightlifting.
