The International Crimes Tribunal-1 in Bangladesh Monday has given the death sentence to Mohammed Mobarak Hossain, a former Razakar commander from Brahmanbaria's Akhaura for war crimes during the 1971 Liberation War.
The tribunal, headed by Justice M. Enayetur Rahim has awarded him the death sentence for the killing of 33 civilians on the banks of Ganga Sagar Dighi at Akhaura's Tanmandayl village Aug 22, 1971, bdnews24.com reported.
Born in Akhaura, Mobarak was associated with the Jamaat-e-Islami during the war with Pakistan.
He, however, changed sides by joining the Awami League. He was later expelled from the party in 2011.
