Wolfsburg have promoted caretaker Valerien Ismael as the football club's head coach, naming him the successor of Dieter Hecking, who was sacked on October 17.
The former Under-23 coach Ismael was appointed as a temporary solution until Wolfsburg found a new coach. "Together we have analysed the situation and decided that Valerien Ismael is the right coach for Wolfsburg," Wolfsburg's CEO Klaus Allofs said on Sunday, reports Xinhua.
"The in-depth examination of all alternatives has shown that he is the best solution for us. We made this decision with full conviction."
For Ismael it is the second position as a head coach after coaching second-division side Nuremberg where he was sacked on November 2014.
The former defender knows the Bundesliga very well as he played for Werder Bremen, Bayern Munich and Hannover.
"I would like to thank Klaus Allofs and all those responsible for the confidence," the 41-year-old coach said.
"I am delighted to be able to continue my work with the team. I know there is still a lot of work to be done but I am deeply convinced that we will successfully work together."
Wolfsburg currently sit on the 13th position of the Bundesliga standings. They face Schalke in the 11th round on November 19.
