A writ petition was on Monday filed in Nepal's Supreme Court against the nine-point agreement reached last week between Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and UCPN (Maoist) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda.
The joint writ filed by advocates Ananta Raj Luitel, Kedar Luitel, Manoj Khadka, Pravindra Raj Joshi and Rudra Pathak has named the government and Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers as the defendants, said the Kathmandu Post.
The petitioners in the writ demanded issuance of a mandamus order to stop the two-party agreement from being enforced.
The writ argues that the agreement was made against the principle of independent judiciary and also without abiding by the constitution.
CPN-UML Chairperson and Prime Minister Oli and UCPN (Maoist) Chairperson Dahal had on May 5 signed a nine-point agreement to supposedly strengthen the ruling alliance.
The deal came about after Prachanda gave up his bid to topple the Oli government and form a government with support from the main opposition Nepali Congress.
