Early departure

The bureaucrats, the most vociferous supporters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the early days of his government, are slowly turning cold to the new government, thanks to some of its strictures aimed at them. Senior bureaucrats are pleased that Modi has given them more decision-making freedom. However, it is the junior soldiers in the bureaucratic order who seem to have problems. The newly introduced attendance system means that they have to be punctual in attending office; on the other hand, more responsibility on their bosses also means that many of them end up staying back way beyond the so-called office hours. The men claim they are the worst sufferers, as their women colleagues cite family commitments and an unsafe city as prime reasons for wanting to depart early.
