This refers to ‘Right to Food’ on hold in a drought year. The food security concept evolved by the ruling UPA government appears to be a paper tiger, with no serious thought given to its implementation. With the onset of drought, the poor masses need to have access to food and food which is affordable. If the shortage of foodgrains poses a threat, then the government needs to tap imports from overseas and make good the shortfall. This will protect the poor from starvation — this is a situation which the government cannot afford to turn a blind eye to.
