Letters: When words speak louder

This refers to the report "I will write my book & reveal truth: Sonia" (August 1). Sonia Gandhi's autobiography will be the mother of all related biographies. The motive behind biographies written by personalities such as Sanjaya Baru and Natwar Singh has been to explain their viewpoints. It cannot be denied that there could be reasonable truth in what they said but their books should be analysed against their circumstances and motives. Nonetheless, this is good for the country and the readers because they emphasise the transparency and accountability of people in authority. The recent biographies have brought Gandhi and Manmohan Singh centre stage and it will be interesting if both write their own versions. In fact, Singh owes it to the public to write about his life and times, for he was lucky enough to occupy almost all major posts in the government and also in international institutions before becoming the prime minister.
