Tax officials started visiting CBDT Chairperson Poonam Kishore Saxena unschedules after she assumed office last month

It is a measure of the confusion in tax laws and rules that Central Board of Direct Taxes Chairperson Poonam Kishore Saxena faced a strange problem after assuming charge last month. Tax officials started visiting her from all parts of the country to explain their views in person and without prior appointment. The problem became so overwhelming that Saxena has now asked them to leave their requests on phone or via email. Officials have been assured that requests through these channels would get the chairperson’s immediate attention. Unscheduled meetings would be possible only between 1:00 and 1:45 p m on all working days.
