In 2006, Hyderabad scored over Bengaluru to get a United States consulate. It was considered a loss to India's tech hub from where thousands apply for visas to the US. The US had a reason to choose Hyderabad, now the joint capital of the twin states, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The consulate in Chennai was bogged down by a high number of applicants with fake documents from then undivided Andhra Pradesh, so it chose Hyderabad. For the record, Bengaluru has a low rejection rate. Karnataka politicians are now on a fresh campaign for a consulate in Bengaluru. Over to Uncle Sam.
