Congress president Sonia Gandhi Tuesday said that the Food Security law would benefit the people of Uttar Pradesh the most.

Addressing a rally at Rae Bareilly - her parliamentary constituency, Gandhi said the union government led by the Congress was working for the development and progress of the people of India, specially the down trodden and the poor.

"Work of development never stops, it goes on and on until everyone is benefited by it," she said and pointed out how farmers in the country were gaining by new schemes and policies brought about by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.

Earlier, she laid foundation stone of the rail wheel factory which is to come up in the already functioning rail coach factory.

Accompanied by her daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, she also performed the 'bhumi pujan' of the proposed All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Munshiganj. The land for AIIMS was given by the state government a few months back. Gandhi also interacted with workers and employees of an ITI and heard their problems.

Priyanka gave some anxious moments to the local police and the special protection group (SPG) when she broke the security cordon and mingled with the crowds and sat with them.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi Monday laid the foundation stone of a Rs.200-crore mega food park at Amethi.
