Jayalalithaa remains critical, security beefed up, normal life unaffected

The 68-year-old leader was admitted to the hospital for treatment of fever and dehydration on Sept 22

While the next 18-20 hours are going to be crucial for Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa,the state remained tense, especially the capital city of Chennai. While a few schools and colleges have announced holidays today, those that  haven't are reporting a small turnout as parents did not want to take the risk of sending their children to school.  
 

Offices, factories and public transport are operational.
 

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up near Apollo Hospitals, as AIADMK workers, Ministers, MLAs and VVIPs have made a beeline after Jayalalithaa suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday evening.

Party MLAs were asked to come to the hospital in the morning and a meeting is expected to be held in Chennai today.

Security has also been beefed up across the state. Bus services from Karnataka and Kerala to Tamil Nadu have been affected after incidents of stone pelting were reported.

Sangita Reddy, Joint Managing Director of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd on Sunday night tweeted, "Our doctors are closely monitoring Hon'ble CM's condition and they are trying their very best. TN CM Jayalalithaa is critical. Multi speciality team of Apollo hospitals is trying everything including ECMO. Praying for her recovery."

The 68-year-old leader was admitted to the hospital for treatment of fever and dehydration on September 22. The doctors later said she needed to be in the hospital for longer as she was suffering from an infection, and put her on respiratory support.

Recently Apollo Hospitals Chairman Pratap C Reddy told the media that Jayalalithaa is returning to normalcy, and had been shifted out of Intensive Care Unit as there were no health complications. She could go home whenever she decides to do so, he had said.

Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao, who has additional charge of the state, returned to Tamil Nadu and visited the hospital to enquire about her condition on Sunday night. He spent about five minutes in the hospital.

However, no statement was issued by Raj Bhavan after his hospital visit.

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President M Karunanidhi and his son and party treasurer MK Stalin were among the first leaders to wish her speedy recovery. Stalin has also visited the Apollo Hospital where the Chief Minister is admitted, at 1.30 am on Monday. 

President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Cabinet Ministers in the central government and other political leaders also wished her a speedy recovery.
