"This is the doublespeak and double standards of BJP. When they were in Opposition in Parliament, they disrupted the Houses over CAG reports. Modi also used the report of the CAG to attack Congress and UPA governments during his election campaign," alleged party spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed.
"Now, after the results are out, Modi is saying that CAG reports should not be used against political opponents. He is doing it due to apprehensions over an upcoming CAG report in Gujarat Assembly.
"The CAG report is very harsh and, in order to pre-empt the attack over it, he is now saying this," Ahmed told reporters here.
Modi had on Wednesday said in Gandhinagar that CAG reports should not be used as a weapon to target political opponents.
"I personally believe that CAG reports must not be used for political gains but utilised to find solutions. I introduced such a system here and asked my men to go to the roots of problems (mentioned in CAG reports)," Modi had said in his farewell speech to Gujarat Assembly before resigning as the state's Chief Minister.
Ahmed, however, said that nothing could be a bigger example of "doublespeak" than this and added that "Indian democracy will always remember that they (BJP) had not allowed Parliament to function year after year".
