RSS chief Bhagwat meets Advani

However, the Sarsanghchalak didn't give assurance to Advani on removal of some representatives of RSS from BJP

In an effort to bring peace between the various warring factions in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the chief of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Mohan Bhagwat, met senior most L K Advani to hear his grievances about several representatives of the Sangh and party.

Although Bhagwat assured Advani that they will continue to have similar discussions in future and talks will also be held at various levels between others leaders of the BJP and RSS, the RSS chief didn’t have give an assurance to Advani on removal of some of the representatives of RSS from BJP.

“Following the brief telephonic conversation that LK Advani had with Mohan Bhagwat last week, there was an hour-long meeting today between the two at the RSS HQ in Delhi. In a detailed and candid interaction Advani conveyed his views on various developments in the country and the role of the party and the broad nationalist movement led by the RSS. It was opined that several issues need further discussion and exchange of notes at various levels. Same will take place at appropriate time. Mohan Bhagwat also suggested that such useful exchange of views should continue in future also,” said Manmohan Vaidya, senior leader of RSS in a statement issued after the meeting.

RSS has decided to back Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi for now and has made him the chairman of election campaign committee. The parent organisation is in no mood to change its stand which was also ratified by the national executive members in Goa.

A day after the Modi’s appointment, Advani had resigned from all posts of the party because the senior most leader was upset with the joint general secretary of RSS, Suresh Soni, and Ramlal, general secretary of BJP, who have backed Modi in his elevation.

Advani is of the view that the interference of Soni and Ramlal in the functioning of BJP should be limited. The RSS had asked former BJP President Nitin Gadkari and ideologue S Gurumurthy to convince Advani to take back his resignation. Gadkari had made Advani speak to Bhagwat which allowed made Advani take back his resignation.


“LK Advani raised names of certain individuals during the discussion and wanted their functioning to be curtailed. There will be no change in the representatives of RSS who are working in BJP. RSS chief has told LK Advani that more discussions will happen between them at various levels,” said a senior leader who is both a members of RSS and BJP.
