Madhya Pradesh government today said poor monsoon and short supply of coal from central sector has affected the power supply in the state. But it said there was no load-shedding plan effective in the state.

"Reservoirs of various hydel power projects are short of sufficient water due to poor monsoon as a result power production has been affected. Also short supply of coal has affected thermal power production in the state," Manu Shrivastava MP Power Management Company Limited said.

In response to reports that Madhya Pradesh has once again plunged into dark-days of yesteryear, he clarified that against committed 3,735 Mw of power only 1,950 Mw of power is available from National Thermal Power Corporation and Damodar Valley Corporation.

Similarly, 1,000 Mw Indira Sagar and 520 Mw Omkareshwar power projects are churning out only 600 Mw of power due to scanty rainfall this year. "The reservoirs have not been filled up to the required level," he said. Sardar Sarovar is also supplying only 250 Mw against expected 826 Mw.

However, state government spokesperson Narottam Mishra said there was no load-shedding plan as reported in a section of media. "All divisional headquarters have regular power supply," he said.

All thermal power plants of the MP Power Generating Company Limited are producing only 1,300 Mw of power due to short supply of coal. Also the hydel power projects of the company are producing only 400 Mw of power against installed capacity of 860 Mw.

"In a day or two the situation will be normal. Much awaited Singaji thermal power project has already started power generation from yesterday night and another power project of Jaypee group in Nigri village will start generating power of 660 Mw.
