The Rajya Sabha was disrupted Friday over baton charge on UPSC aspirants in Delhi.

Those aspiring to appear in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exams have been demanding the scrapping of Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT), calling it discriminatory against those with Hindi background.

Protesting students in north Delhi were baton charged, and 20 students were arrested. Students also set some vehicles on fire, police said.

Members were on their feet to demand a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the house.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Prakash Javadekar assured them a statement will be made, but opposition members kept agitating.

The house, amidst the din, was first adjourned for 15 minutes and then till noon.

Earlier, the upper house condoled the death of school children in aa train-bus smash-up in Medak district of Telangana and observed two minutes' silence.
