Comviva to be certified to deliver Western Union Money Transfer® Service Capability
Comviva, a leading provider of mobile value-added solutions in emerging markets globally, today announced that it has been selected to participate in the Mobile Vendor Program of The Western Union Company (NYSE: WU).
Western Union, a global leader in money-transfer services, introduced the Mobile Vendor Program in 2009. The program is intended to extend the reach and accessibility of Western Union Money Transfer® services to mobile finance initiatives across the globe.
Comviva delivers a broad suite of mobile value-added solutions that drive revenues for service providers across over 80 markets globally. Comviva’s multi-award winning mobiquity™ mobile money solution extends access to financial services for mobile users across emerging markets. By transforming the mobile into a cash-free and card-free payment and transaction medium, the mobiquity™ platform extends a range of convenient and secure pay-as-you-go formal financial services to banked and unbanked users, including cash deposit and disbursal, money transfer and mobile payments.
“This alliance exemplifies our commitment to continuous innovation in the mobile money space,” commented Manoranjan Mohapatra, CEO, Comviva. “Selection by Western Union, a global leader in money transfer services and cross-border transactions, is further recognition of Comviva’s leadership in extending mobile money services to under-served segments globally. International remittance via the mobile is the next logical step, and this partnership expands mobiquity’s™ capabilities in this regard considerably.”
Western Union is certifying mobile platform vendors to reduce integration costs and accelerate go-to-market activities for banks and mobile operators by creating standard technical deployments. Once a bank or mobile operator contracts with Western Union to activate the Western Union® Mobile Money Transfer service, its consumers will be integrated with Western Union's core transaction processing system. This system supports Western Union's global network of more than 350,000 Agent locations in over 200 countries and territories. MMT is currently available through select Agent locations as Western Union embarks on a program to extend availability to more locations during 2010.
